State Medical Board Licensing Questions Regarding Mental Health: Mission Not Yet Accomplished

In a recent issue of JMR, Areluba et al published their literature review the potential impact medical licensing questions on physicians' willingness to seek mental health treatment.1 Their serves not only summarize current this important issue, but it also maintains necessary focus work yet be done. Saddawi-Konefka and colleagues reviewed publicly available initial applications for US states territories, as July 2020.2 Of 2018 FSMB recommendations physician wellness burnout3 that were evaluable in these license applications, 5 still inconsistent with all 4 apply state licensure, 1 was consistent 4.While is clear several boards have revised become more compliant FSMB's guidance, there clearly much done before physicians ability care without concern its licensure application or renewal.The factors contributing burnout are multi-factorial complex. Aruleba colleagues' supports assertion although regarding history factor impeding path care, they do seem factors.As COVID-19 pandemic drags on, intent leave practice continue rise—-to alarmingly high levels 60% >40 %, respectively.4 Reversing trend has no easy answers removing barriers our seeking by minimizing licensing, would an step toward improving wellness.
